Implementing PLC & Software Development

We decided to implement an open source PLC by Industrial Shields in our extruder. We thought that their open source industrial components would fit best to our idea of an open source industrial extruder. An advantage is definitely that it is based on an Arduino and this will make it much easier for makers to program and update it. But using an Arduino is still not our final decision, to be honest, I still have some reseverations to use an Arduino in industrial machines.

I am also working on a software which monitors and controls the extruder from PC or mobile phone. We will try to develop an tailored “Industry 4.0” (=smart factory) approach for small businesses in the plastics industry.
